Teens & Online Dating

We all know teens love to share personal information on social networking sites, but how many teens actually sign up for online dating websites? 71% of teens have established some form of online profile. Honestly this is less than what I would have thought it would be. But the scary part is that 58% of teens don't see any danger in posting pictures or other personal information on their profiles.

Also, everyone hears about predators pretending to be teens online in order to get closer to them. The scary part is that 70% of young internet users will except a friend request whether they know the person or not. Its sad to say, but most of us are guilty of this. There have been many people who add me on Facebook who I just except because we have mutually friends, and when I go back and look at their profile I have no idea who the hell that person is.

One website went as far as to say online pedophiles are up by 300%. I think they may be a little extreme. With a generation that revolves around ever growing technology, its no surprise that criminals are using those resources to find victims.

Types of online dating sites

As everyone knows there are many different types of online websites. Some are normal, then some get as odd as animal or fabric fetishes. One website describes the top 10 weirdest sites as farmersonly.com, who brags about having one wedding a week and being a site for traditional southern folk, vampirepassions.com for vampires and vamp lovers, positivesingles.com for singles who test positive for Herpes, HPV, and AIDS.

Other websites are slightly more odd than the ones above. CupidsLibrary.com has a whole list of fetish sites including DailyDiapers, CollarMe, and LadyBoyKisses, all with URLs included. It also gives a brief description of what fetish sites are all about!

So whether you're into wearing diapers, or want an older lady there is a dating site out there for you! Just be sure you know what you are getting into whenever you log on, I'm sure you fellow site users take this stuff very seriously.

Marriage and Online Dating

Everyone online dating website says that they have the highest rate for marriage, so I decided to look into that. To my surprise, when googling "Online dating and marriage" some of the top site that come up are actually dating sites for people who are already married, looking to have an affair with someone who is also married. One of those sites is TrueCheater.com.
One website found that 1/3 of all married couples in the US met online. They also went deeper to decide who was happier in the relationship, the couples who met online or by more traditional means. The study found that after marriage, only 5.96% of couples who met online broke up by the end of the survey period, compared to 7.67% of couples who met by other means.

Racism && online dating

So this week I looked into racism involved in online dating. To get into this, we some what have to discuss racism in real life dating. Though interracial dating has become more excepted, there are still only 4.8 million inter racial couples in the US, which is a whopping 1 in 12 relationships.

In online dating, race is still a huge factor when couples are deciding who to communicate with. A study found that 55% of black males will reply to a message from an Asian female, but only 17% of Asian females will reply to a message from a black male. Of course, its up to the person as to whether they reply or not, but race is definitely something people notice when looking at someones profile.

But, those looking to find an inter racial relationship online, don't fret! I actually found an online dating site for people specifically looking for inter racial relationships!

Online Dating Statistics

My blog is about online dating. For my first post I research statistics on online dating. The top site for online dating is Match.com with 9.9 million monthly users! I didn't realize that THAT many people used online dating. Also during my research it made me stop and think about my relationship that I have grown through the internet. No, I've never used online dating, but there are a few people on facebook that I have never met that I talk to more than the friends that I have actually met in person. Its crazy the comfort zone that a computer can be. Its almost an illusion that you can tell these people more about yourself, because they don't really know you they can't judge you. I also found out that there are 54 million total users of online dating sites in the USA, 52.5% males and 47.6% females, and only 10% of convicted sex offenders use online dating in order to meet other people. This statistic surprised me, since most people are afraid of online dating because we don't know who could be on the other side of that screen.
I am also in the process of creating a fake online profile, and DON'T JUDGE ME! I'm going to create a fake profile, all fake information and pictures, and invite people to meet me at my bar, while I'm really bartending. I know, its a little messed up and heartless, but I'm not going to take it to the extend of the TV show Catfish. While telling some of my regulars about my plan, they were worried about people being able to hack the site and get my email address and find out who I really am and where I am posting information from. So, I got one of my good friends, who went to school for hacking, to try and hack the site that I was using, which was not a major dating website. Come to find out the sites are actually very hard to hack. He couldn't get into it just using his computer, he would have had to go and get more software designed to hack harder, more secure sites, which made me feel alot better. So maybe all the fear behind predators being on the other side of the screen and the sites being hacked and our location being found are all just taboo that isn't really correct.
